About Aysheberton Stannary Carnival Club

We are a small club from South Devon which was founded in 2004.

The club was started after several members of the current club decided that they wanted to have their own carnival club as they could then participate in carnivals and circuits that they enjoyed, particulary in the Somerset Carnivals.

Since the clubs was founded in 2004, it's members have enjoyed a total of around 70 carnivals to the end of the 2008 season. They have had great success with each of their floats earning many trophies and rewards along the way, including the East Devon Overall Champions in 2005.

Our members range from the age of 11 years old to 65 years old, and we all help in ways that we can to ensure that we get out on the road. This is from fund raising to building and decorating the float. As none of our members have any qualifications in any trade, at times we do struggle with electrics and carpentry (like many small clubs). However, we are all keen to learn and 2008 was the first year that we used fibreglass to construct the waves at the front of our float. We learnt many mistakes along the way, and hope to not make them again in our next use. At present a couple members are learning to do some welding which will help us greatly in the future.

We enjoy doing carnivals and although we only are able to raise a small amount of money per year (around £1500) we do the best that we can, and then go out to carnivals and have a great time. If we did not enjoy carnivals, then we would not do them. However, there is no chance of us disliking them, so sorry carnivalites everywhere, you have got to put up with us longer yet.

We are looking for a main sponsor, so we would always welcome any advances in this area.

History Of The Club By Season

2004

Tribal Spirits - Club was formed with a purchase of the former Exmouth Carnival Queens float. It was in a poor state and had to be pretty much re-built from scratch. The club had very limited funds and only had a 5kva generator, 8 x150w floodlights and 2 speakers. We arrived at our first carnival with about 3 minutes to spare until judging as we were building the float throughout the night and day in order to get there. It all payed off as we got first place! Good times!

Top 3 placings & special awards = 12

2005

Night Walkers - The club purchased another 2 speakers which were put under the float to hide them from view. This was the best year for the club to date in terms of prizes, which included Overall East Devon Circuit Winners!!

Top 3 placings & special awards = 16

2006

Behind The Masque - The club purchased another 2 speakers and also 2 horns to project the music as we was getting drowned out on the Somerset Circuits. With this additonal power consumption we had to purchase another generator, which was to run the music system, and the old generator run the music....and the kettle!!

Top 3 placings & special awards = 12

2007

Once Upon A Rhyme - This year the club purchased another 2 speakers a subwoofer, and an additional pair of horns. This bought us to 8 speakers 4 horns and 1 subwoofer, which is not bad for a float that is 27foot long!

Top 3 placings & special awards = 10

2008

Ride of the Valkayries - The club went from 12 floodlights to 154 energy saving bulbs and 7 flood lights. This had a huge change on our lighting of the float, yet saved us on our power consumption and petrol....which is a good thing as our 5kva generator ceased to live half way through the season, and had to borrow another generator from Mike Brown from Phoenix CC (thanks Mike).

Top 3 placings & special awards = 13

2009

No Entry This Year!! – We will not be submitting an entry this year due to buying a new float, then needing to get a new engine for it. As we are unable to find an engine at the moment, we will not be going out this year. However, that means that we have the remainder of this season to find one, to bounce back next year.
